Engagement Session

Preparing for your

Relax and have fun! Whether this is an engagement session celebrating a new chapter together or a 10 year anniversary session celebrating how far you’ve come, take these two hours to leave everything else at the door and just be together. I’ll take care of the rest!

first things first

Each couple is unique, with different personalities and different stories and it is my goal to create fun, beautiful, spirited images that tell your story. Our session together is going to be a lot of fun! I’ve put together a bunch of information to help you prepare so that when it comes time for our session, you can just relax and enjoy hanging out and snuggling up with your love!

I love shooting engagement and couples sessions for so many reasons. It’s such a wonderful experience for me to put two people in love in front of my camera and see what happens.

welcome!

And fit well. This will translate to clean lines and little distraction in your photos. Your dress, blouse and jeans should lay nicely around your hips and waist, creating beautiful clean lines and a nice tailored look.

wear clothes that fit

For some this is a dress and heels, for others it’s well fitting jeans and a blouse with sandals. If you aren’t comfortable in what you’ve chosen to wear, it will show. I want you to feel great when you look back at these photos! You will be given the opportunity for two outfits, so I recommend a casual and a dressy outfit!

The most important thing I can tell you on this topic is...     Wear what feels good! Think about what you might wear to a nice evening out or how you might dress for a special occasion. Think about the outfits that make you feel amazing.

The million dollar question -what to wear!

Avoid matching, but try to coordinate. Our goal here is to capture realistic, natural photos of you. While we’re going for a little more polish than you might see on an average Saturday morning, we don’t want you to look like you’re in a uniform. So how do we achieve that? Coordinating color is what really brings it all together. I find that coordinating tones or color shades is a flawless option. I strongly recommend sticking to neutral, light colors as they not only create beautiful tones and highlights but tend not to distract from the reason we're all here - you and your love. A few of my favorite tones are blues, greens and neutrals (ivory, oatmeal, linen). Try choosing one main tone and building the rest of your outfits around that tone!

I don’t recommend black, red, busy prints or graphic patterns as they are distracting and don’t photograph well. Red tones in particular tend to create a color cast that does not photograph well. Subtle stripes, neutral florals and textures are great options! They add some wonderful depth and dimension to the photos. And don’t forget, expression is key! We want to be able to see your personality through your wardrobe.

what makes us different

Timeless looks will last. I am a sucker for the classics. Neutrals. The simple yet elegant looks that will always stand the test of time, and will never go out of style. I recommend skipping the RIGHT NOW trends and working toward creating outfits that will look timeless and beautiful hanging on your wall for years to come.

And lastly..

Shoes sometimes get overlooked and they can make or break a photo! My recommendation for shoes are boots, heels, flats or sandals for ladies and leather loafers or super simple sneakers for the guys.

Shoes are a very important part of wardrobe.

More what to wear!

-Feel free to bring a little “refresh” kit. Bobby pins, hairspray, makeup for touchups etc.
-I recommend a fresh manicure or skipping polish altogether. Your hands will be in the photos, especially if we’re photographing a new ring!
-I recommend bringing flip flops or comfy shoes for walking in case those super cute fancy shoes get uncomfortable!
-Eat a good solid meal before our session! We will likely be walking and moving around a bit!
Bring water and maybe even a snack if you think you’ll need a little extra energy.
-This probably goes without saying but make sure you arrive on time! Give yourself a little extra time buffer in case of traffic etc. As a natural light photographer, I plan your shoot around the best light of day and this light is limited! I want to make sure we take advantage of every second of our session and running even 10 minutes behind could hinder that.
